Following severe flooding in February 2022, Admiralty Tower 2 in Brisbane required robust basement protection. Banc Apartments, Toowong, Brisbane
Banc Apartments, a riverside residential tower in Toowong, was flooded when the Brisbane River overtopped in 2022. A site survey revealed gaps in the existing protection, so Flood Control International designed and installed demountable flood barriers across key entry points. These included the main driveway, emergency exits, carpark and service areas. The slot-in barriers, standing 1.8m high, were built to resist overtopping and provide quick deployment in future flood events. This practical solution now ensures residents and facilities are protected against repeat flooding from the Brisbane River.
Paeroa, New Zealand
Paeroa, located on New Zealand’s North Island, has a long history of devastating floods. To protect the community, Waikato Regional Council commissioned Flood Control International to design and install heavy-duty sliding flood gates at Criterion Bridge. Each gate weighs 7 tonnes and measures 10.8m wide by 2.7m high, engineered to be fully sealed within minutes. The system was tested during Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023, successfully holding back the Ohinemuri River. This installation highlights how precision-engineered sliding flood gates safeguard vital transport routes, farmland and town infrastructure.
